my car was doing that and I went out and bought spray paint that matched my color and would spray it on the spot once in awhile,I didnt have the money to get a paint job so I figured it was a fast fix, some men where surprised at that idea and liked it.

Go to any automotive shop and get polishing compound, fine to medium and get a buffing wheel and it will restore it to almost new. Be careful as if you spend to much time in one spot you can remove to much paint. If your afraid to do this take it to a detailing shop. Don't use a spray can.

This is a common problem - the whitish color you see is the clear coat on top of the black paint that is now broken down and coming off - yes, you can polish it to reduce the white coloring but you will see the white come back in about a week or sooner depending on how much sun the paint is exposed to

Factory clear coats are put on very thin to avoid environmental laws and I see this happen to cars all the time

If you don't mind polishing the car on a frquent basis, your hood will look "ok" for at least another year but eventually you will polish right through the black base coat into the primer

The only real solution is to have the hood repainted - a 100 bucks? I would avoid cheap companies that use junt paint - if your going to paint something and spend the money then you might as well do it right and have it last.

Expect a cost between 200-400 depending on where you live - this would be high quality paint that will last years and years
